With this yearโs theme, โSama-sama para sa Bayang Bumabasa,โ the regional kick-off ceremony brought together DepEd regional and division officials, local government leaders, barangay representatives, school heads, teachers, parents, and volunteers from various sectors. The theme underscores the need for collective action not only in school readiness but also in promoting a culture of reading and literacy among Filipino learners.
The event was graced by key officials from DepEd Central Office, Undersecretary Atty. Rowena Candice M. Ruiz, Region Office, led by Regional Director Allan G. Farnazo, along with Schools Division Superintendents, Assistant Schools Division Superintedents, and local officials. In their messages, officials highlighted the vital role of collaboration in creating safe, inclusive, and literacy-focused learning environments.
In a symbolic show of unity, participants engaged in various activities including classroom clean-ups, repainting of school facilities, gardening, repair of learning spaces, and book donations. Special reading corners and literacy booths were also set up to emphasize the importance of reading proficiency across all grade levels.
The kick-off program featured performances by local students, a turnover of cleaning and construction materials from partner agencies, and inspirational talks from community leaders and Brigada Eskwela champions. A ceremonial signing of the Pledge of Commitment sealed the shared responsibility among stakeholders to support education.
Brigada Eskwela, DepEdโs annual maintenance and volunteerism campaign, continues to serve as a platform for bayanihan, mobilizing communities to ensure that schools are physically ready and academically enriching spaces for learners.
As the school year draws near, DepEd Region XI calls on more volunteers and partners to take part in Brigada Eskwela activities scheduled in schools throughout the region in the coming weeks.
