The Schools Division Office (SDO) of Davao del Sur has successfully concluded the Division Training of Trainers (DTOT) for Assessors, held at Hotel de Crisbelle, Crown Center, Digos City. The series of trainings brought together teacher-leaders, school heads, and supervisors from 15 DepEd districts alongside Education Program Supervisors from the Curriculum Implementation Division, Schools Governance and Operations Division and the Office of the Schools Division Superintendent.
The DTOT, aimed to equip assessors with a deeper understanding of classroom observation and portfolio assessmentโkey elements in the Department of Educationโs enhanced teacher development and evaluation process. The training served as a capacity-building initiative in support of the recently introduced Expanded Career Progression System for Public School Teachers.
Central to the training was the presentation of the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST) and the Teacher Development Framework, which highlighted the importance of reflective practice and continuous professional growth. These frameworks lay the groundwork for the career progression policy, providing clearer and more motivating pathways for teacher advancement.
Participants also received in-depth orientation on the Expanded Career Progression policy, which offers new professional growth opportunities by recognizing the diverse roles and increasing expertise of educators. This policy is expected to further empower teachers by providing a more merit-based, competency-driven system for career advancement.
A focal point of the DTOT was the Assessors Program, which clearly defined the roles and responsibilities of assessors in conducting fair, consistent, and evidence-based evaluations through classroom observations and portfolio assessments. Trainers emphasized the significance of integrity, objectivity, and reliability in the assessment process.
Moreover, the training provided comprehensive guidelines on the reclassification process, detailing the necessary documentation, assessment criteria, and timelines. This ensures that all assessor-applicants are equipped with the knowledge to validate applications efficiently and accurately.
Throughout the training sessions, participants engaged in collaborative activities and discussions, fostering a strong culture of professional exchange and shared best practices. Feedback from the field was highly positive, with participants expressing confidence in their readiness to serve as assessors and champions of teacher growth.
With the successful completion of all batches, the SDO Davao del Sur takes pride in its commitment to strengthening teacher quality and leadership across the division. The learnings from this DTOT are expected to significantly contribute to more effective and consistent teacher evaluation practices, ultimately benefiting learners and enhancing the overall quality of education in the region.
