In its aim to systematized the protocol in all difficult times and strengthen learning continuity, the Department of Education (DepEd) Davao del Sur Division officially launched its Operations Manual on Learning Continuity Amid the Suspension of In-Person Classes During Disasters and Emergencies on Friday, July 25, at Sta. Cruz Central Elementary School.
The manual outlines standardized procedures and protocols for schools to ensure uninterrupted delivery of basic education during calamities such as typhoons, earthquakes, floods, and other emergencies that may require the suspension of face-to-face classes.
According to SDS Lorenzo E. Mendoza, CESO V, the manual aims to support school heads, teachers, and local education stakeholders in activating alternative learning delivery modes including modular distance learning, online instruction, and blended approaches when physical attendance becomes unsafe or impossible.
Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Lorenzo E. Mendoza, CESO V led the launching ceremony, which was attended by division personnel, district heads, school administrators, DRRM (Disaster Risk Reduction and Management) coordinators, local government officials, interagencies representatives and students-leaders.
โThis initiative reinforces our commitment to continue learning in all circumstances,โ SDS Mendoza said.
The manual also includes guidance on risk communication, logistical planning, mental health and psychosocial support, and community engagement. It mandates each school to regularly update its Learning Continuity Plan (LCP) in alignment with the division-wide framework.
Local officials and interagencies partners expressed support for the initiative.
DepEd Davao del Sur announced that a series of orientations and training sessions will be held across districts in the coming weeks to support the implementation of the manual. Schools are expected to complete updates to their LCPs and conduct simulation activities before the end of the quarter.
The initiative is part of the broader education resilience strategy of DepEd in response to the increasing frequency of climate-related and man-made disruptions to the academic calendar.
