In a joint effort to strengthen digital learning, the Department of Education (DepEd) Region XI and the ABS-CBN Foundationโ€™s Project Genio officially turned over ICT learning resources to the Schools Division Office of Davao del Sur. The ceremony gathered education leaders, school heads, and foundation representatives to celebrate a shared commitment to advancing digital education in the region.

The donation included laptops, tablets, and other digital tools aimed at boosting the ICT capabilities of schoolsโ€”especially those in remote and underserved communities.

Maricel S. Langahid, Regional ALS Focal Person, and Teacher Maricar B. Estole, Project Genio Program Head of ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation Inc., led the symbolic handover. Addressing learners directly, Estole emphasized the transformative power of alternative education (ALS).

โ€œItโ€™s the beauty of ALSโ€”nobody is left behind. Because nagkamali ka, o minsan nagka-problema ka, o minsan may nakilala kang tao at nag-asawa ka kaagad… kahit saan kang parte ng mundo, puwede kang mag-enroll sa ALS. Sa amin, kayo po yung pinaka-inspirasyon namin,โ€ she said.

Estole also praised Davao Regionโ€™s trailblazing efforts in ALS innovation and excellence.

โ€œDavao Region has the best innovation, trailblazer. Kayo parati ang una sa buong Pilipinas. Sobrang ganda ng ALS programs ninyo, ang gagaling din ng mga teachers.โ€

Lorenzo E. Mendoza, Schools Division Superintendent of Davao del Sur, assured stakeholders of the proper management and sustained use of the resources.

โ€œWe are committing ourselves to really make this helpful gadgets to be of great use… and we will make sure na maayos ang lahat ng ito at magagamit ng mas matagal at mas marami pang mga kabataan ang makakagamit,โ€ he said.

The program concluded with the formal turnover of ICT kits to school heads and a brief orientation on responsible usage and care. The initiative reflects the continued collaboration between DepEd and the ABS-CBN Foundation in promoting inclusive, technology-driven education for Filipino learners.
